Gold Mountain & Elk Fire Updates – 7.20.26

As of July 20, there continue to be two fires affecting the southern and southwestern portions of Gunnison County: The Gold Mountain Fire and the Elk Fire.

The Gold Mountain Fire originated in Ouray County, and two evacuation zones in southwestern Gunnison County remain in place. Click on the “Incidents” tab and “Gold Mountain Fire” for information and evacuations.

The Elk Fire originated in Hinsdale County several miles north of Lake City and west of Highway 149. At this time, it has not encroached into Gunnison County, but there is one zone in southern Gunnison County that is in a Pre-Evacuation status.
