🟩 PRE-EVACUATION NOTICE FOR ZONE GNN-220 - BE AWARE!

The Gunnison County Sheriff's Office has issued a Pre-Evacuation for GNN 220 in southern Gunnison County. This is for properties along Highway 149 north of the Hinsdale County line, south of the Whinnery Ranch gravel pit, and east and west to the National Forest boundaries.

Exact boundaries for Zone GNN-220 can be found on the Evacuation Map available above. To see what zone you are in, click on the Back button at the top of the map widget, then enter your address in the search field.

 

Pre-Evacuation means:

➡️ That area is NOT under a Voluntary or Mandatory Evacuation order yet, but your area is at high risk.

➡️ Conditions may change quickly, and we need you to be prepared and ready in case a voluntary or mandatory evacuation is issued.

➡️ If you require a longer time to evacuate due to medical issues, livestock needs, or other factors, we urge you to begin evacuation preparations immediately and leave as soon as possible.

➡️ Be Prepared: Review your evacuation plan, assemble your Go Kit, and watch for emergency alerts. Preparedness information is available here.

Be aware that fire and law enforcement personnel will be working in this area. Please give them the space they need to work safely and efficiently and obey any directives provided.

If you need to evacuate livestock or large animals such as horses, cattle, goats, swine, sheep, the Gunnison County Fairgrounds, located at 275 South Spruce St, Gunnison, CO 81230, has been set up as an evacuation location. Call 970-641-7660 if you are bringing animals. Mandatory vet checks will be conducted on all animals entering.

Elk Fire- July 12, 2026

The Elk Fire is located in northern Hinsdale County, approximately a mile south of the Gunnison County line and west of Highway 149. The U.S. Forest Service - Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison Forests has assigned resources to this fire.

At this time it has not encroached into Gunnison County, and there are no evacuations in place.
